Choices Create Our Future

Words to live by. Moment by moment, our choices create our future… beginning now. Choose wisely!

Goals Quote

“People with goals succeed because they know where they’re going.”

Remember to Remember

Summer is still here!

Mary & DG

While many people are getting into fall mode, I prefer to savor the belief that summer is still here as we, officially, have [nearly, almost…] another 1 ½ months to go!

Let’s not allow marketers’ messages and holiday displays to move in just yet and, instead, allow yourself to drink up every last bit of summer. For those of us who respect New England and its winters (ugh!), I know this will resonate instantly.

It’s easy to understand why most of us love summer (see the “w” word above). I think it’s because…

Summer feels good.

In my walk with our Golden Retriever, Faith (aka… the love of my life), this past Sunday morning it proved testimony to how great it feels to enjoy the ease and fun summer offers. With the “postcard” day that arrived here in Madison, she and I watched a family immersed on the beach with their dog, shovels and smiles. Summer becomes tangible when we observe how people feel being outdoors at the beach, biking or enjoying outdoor parties with friends and family.

To choose a word to describe this feeling, what comes to mind is…

F – R – E – E – D – O – M

Freedom may seem like a simple word yet I’m curious, what meaning does it hold for you on a day-to-day basis?

What net?

Does your hair hurt?

slippery little secrets about time management…

Whether you’re a business owner or a busy person, YOU drive the bus and are the one who has to make things happen. Yet, who or what keeps YOU on track while you try to stay on top of the gazillion things you need to do in the course of a day, week or – hopefully not – the weekend? Okay, just saying, but that silence was deafening!

Your customers’ and employees’ needs are usually ill-timed. Marketing is constant. Cash flow is a king that needs to be courted. Strategy needs adjusting. Social media makes you crazy. Change is the norm and time is fleeting. On the other hand, a few more hours of sleep could come in real handy! My hair hurts just writing this!

So, how do you stay in control to get things done?

are you lost?

In talking with a client yesterday, she was sharing her challenges about her business with wanting more reward and more success that she certainly knows she is capable of having. Yet, she was feeling, somehow, that the door in front of her was stuck in the “not quite open wide enough” position for her to walk through. As she shared her situation, I could hear the scrape across the floor when a door gets stuck only allowing inches of an opening too difficult and uncomfortable to pass through. Ouch! In hearing her frustration, I shared a quote that seemed to stop her in her tracks:

If you’re not lost, you haven’t traveled far enough away from home.

While I don’t recall where I read this quote, I was reminded how true this seems for so many of us at some point or another in our life or work. Would you agree? [Read more…]

2 Secrets to Working Smarter, Not Harder

Weekends are amazing in Madison. We live close to a vineyard that reminds me of Napa, a bistro that feels like you’re in France and the Long Island Sound that feels like vacation on Block Island – yet way too cold to swim yet, unfortunately! Unplugging from work is vital if we’re to recharge to be able to get to the things that matter most. Yet, the other day a small business owner was telling me, begrudgingly,  they still find themselves working on weekends. Is this you? If so, read on because it’s time to re-thinc! Palm trees

Turning Goals into Action

More often than not, the obstacle between you and your dreams or goals is not time constraints, brainpower, or a lack of resources: it’s confusion with the ‘how-to-do-it’. Oftentimes we don’t really know what the goal actually means. For example, when goals remain as wants – “I want to grow my business” or “I want to lose weight”, we don’t always clarify them to the point where we know what we should be doing on a day-to-day to basis to move closer toward them. So, what can you do to turn your goals into reality? Let’s find out!

What’s in a question?

Whatever the goal is, here’s the secret. We must define the goal so we know how to get there! For example, we might say we want more business; but, what type of business? How much business? Unprofitable business isn’t worth your while.

Realizing our Goals

Sitting in one of our 6 local [Starbucks alternative] coffee shops today – yes, there are 6  in our small town – a friend of mine said… “the days just seem to all blend together“.  I knew exactly what he meant as it ties into last month’s post asking ‘where did January and February go’? Time does move quickly as we are all continually challenged to juggle many things in each of our 24 hours including a good night’s sleep! And, here it is already mid-March with daylight savings time already devoid of its novelty in less than a week. My pulse rises just writing this!

The words my friend shared said, to me, what nearly everyone’s dilemma seems to be today when it comes to trying to find time for what we hold most important in our life. How do we focus on our goals when we are trying to keep up with the pace that our daily life demands? It reminds me of the commonly used metaphor in my circle described as ”someone trying to change a tire while driving down the highway at 80 miles per hour’. Dangerous, to say the least; yet somehow, something many of us can seem to relate to. Yes?

How do we find time for what is most important to us?

It’s March… do you know where your goals are?

What if 1 step increased your success rate by 80%?  It’s all yours below.

Where did January and February go? Time seems to evaporate these days causing our goals to get relegated to the back seat of our minds as we attempt, simply, to keep up with the everyday demands of our business and life. Our best intentions to put what is most important first cannot often compete with the daily demands on our time and attention.

If you have got goals that are important to you and you want to make them a reality, read on for 1 simple step that can make all the difference – no matter how busy you may already be.
